Question
Given λm∞ (in s cm2 mol-1) for Ca+2 = 119, Mg+2 = 106, Cl- = 76 and SO4-2 = 160 then calculate value of Λm∞ for CaCl2 and MgSO4 respectively:-
Options
A.193.3 and 271.0 s cm2 mol-1
B.195 and 266 s cm2 mol-1
C.271 and 266 s cm2 mol-1
D.135.8 and 235.5 s cm2 mol-1
Solution
(Λm∞) of CaCl2 = (Λm∞)Ca+2 + 2 (Λm∞)Cl-
= 119 + 2 × 76
= 119 + 152
= 271 s cm2 mol-1
(Λm∞)MgSO4 = (Λm∞)Mg+2 + (Λm∞)SO4-2
= 106 + 160 = 266 s cm2 mol-1
= 119 + 2 × 76
= 119 + 152
= 271 s cm2 mol-1
(Λm∞)MgSO4 = (Λm∞)Mg+2 + (Λm∞)SO4-2
= 106 + 160 = 266 s cm2 mol-1
