Question
Equilibrium constant for the reactions,
2 NO + O2 ⇋ 2 NO2 is KC1 ;
NO2 + SO2 ⇋ SO3 + NO is KC2 and
2 SO3 ⇋ 2 SO2 + O2 is KC3 then correct reaction is :
2 NO + O2 ⇋ 2 NO2 is KC1 ;
NO2 + SO2 ⇋ SO3 + NO is KC2 and
2 SO3 ⇋ 2 SO2 + O2 is KC3 then correct reaction is :
Options
A.KC3 = KC1 × KC2 = 1
B.KC3 × KC1 × K2C2 = 1
C.KC3 × KC1 × KC2 = 1
D.KC3 × K2C1 × KC2 = 1
Solution
(i) 2 NO + O2 ⇋ 2 NO2
(ii) NO2 + SO2 ⇋ SO3 + NO
(iii) 2 SO3 ⇋ 2 SO2 + O2
Now, -2 (ii) = (i) + (iii)
So, KC3 × KC1 = 1K2C2
(ii) NO2 + SO2 ⇋ SO3 + NO
(iii) 2 SO3 ⇋ 2 SO2 + O2
Now, -2 (ii) = (i) + (iii)
So, KC3 × KC1 = 1K2C2
