Question
The same current is passed through acidulated water and stannous chloride solution. What volume of dry detonating gas at 0°C and 1 atm is evolved from water, when 1.20 g of tin is deposited from the other solution? (Sn = 120)
Options
A.112 ml
B.336 ml
C.224 ml
D.672 ml
Solution
Detonating gas is mixture of H2 and O2
$n_{eq}S_{n} = n_{eq}H_{2} = n_{eq}O_{2} \Rightarrow \frac{1.2}{120} \times 2 = n_{H_{2}} \times 2 = n_{O_{2}} \times 4$
$\therefore n_{H_{2}} = 0.01\text{ and }n_{O_{1}} = 0.005$
∴ Vol. of mixture of H2 and O2 = 0.015 × 22400 = 336 ml
