Question
KP for formation of ethane from hydrogen and ethylene is 5.5 × 1018 atm−1 and KP for formation of ethylene from hydrogen and acetylene is 5 × 1026 atm−1 at 323 K. What is KP for the reaction between hydrogen and acetylene to form ethane at 323 K?
Options
A.2.75 × 1045 atm–2
B.1.1 × 10–8
C.9.09 × 107
D.3.63 ×10–46 atm2
Solution
C2H4 + H2 $\rightleftharpoons$C2H6; K1 = 5.5 × 1018 atm–1
C2H2 + H2 $\rightleftharpoons$C2H4; K2 = 5 × 1026 atm–1
∴ C2H2 + 2H2 $\rightleftharpoons$C2H6;
Krequired = K1.K2 = 2.75 × 1045 atm–2
