JEE Main Cutoff 2025: Category-wise Analysis & 2026 Predictions
JEE Main cutoff determines who qualifies for JEE Advanced. Understanding historical cutoff trends helps you set realistic score targets. Here is everything you need to know about JEE Main cutoffs.
JEE Main 2024 Cutoff (for JEE Advanced eligibility)
General: 93.2 percentile (approx 89 marks). EWS: 75.6 percentile. OBC-NCL: 79.7 percentile. SC: 60.1 percentile. ST: 44.3 percentile. PWD: 0.1 percentile. These cutoffs vary each year based on paper difficulty.
Score vs Percentile Understanding
JEE Main uses percentile scoring, not raw marks. A 100 percentile means you scored higher than all other candidates — not 100 marks. With ~12 lakh students, even 99 percentile means ~12,000 students scored equal or higher.
Factors Affecting Cutoff
Cutoff increases when: paper is easy (more high scorers), more students appear, or NTA changes difficulty normalization. Cutoff decreases when: paper is hard or fewer students appear. 2025 had a slightly easier January session leading to higher cutoffs.
NITs and IIITs Cutoff Trends
Top NITs (Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal) require 97-99 percentile for CSE. Mid-tier NITs require 90-95 percentile for popular branches. JoSAA counselling cutoffs depend on your Home State, branch, and category.
2026 Predicted Cutoff
Based on 5-year trend: General cutoff likely 89-95 percentile for JEE Advanced eligibility. Aim for 95+ percentile to have safe NIT options. Score above 150/300 for reliable Advanced qualification.
