JEE Main Mathematics Important Topics and Scoring Strategy (2026)

jee main

Mathematics in JEE Main tests speed and accuracy. With 25 questions in 60 minutes, you need both conceptual clarity and fast calculation skills. Focus on the right chapters to maximize your score.

Calculus (Highest Weightage — 8-9 questions)

Calculus is the single largest chapter group in JEE Main Maths. Topics: Limits and Continuity (2 Qs), Differentiation (2 Qs), Integration (2-3 Qs), Differential Equations (1-2 Qs). Master integration techniques — substitution, by parts, and standard forms.

Algebra (7-8 questions)

Complex Numbers, Matrices and Determinants, Permutation and Combination, Probability, and Binomial Theorem together account for 7-8 questions. Complex Numbers alone is 2-3 questions in most papers.

Coordinate Geometry (5-6 questions)

Straight Lines, Circles, Parabola, Ellipse, and Hyperbola. JEE Main typically has one conic section question on each curve type. Focus on standard forms and their properties.

Trigonometry and Vectors (3-4 questions)

Trigonometric equations, inverse trigonometry, and properties of triangles account for 2-3 questions. 3D Geometry and Vectors contribute 2-3 more. These are reliable high-scoring topics.

Speed Strategy for Mathematics

Solve easy questions first (Probability, Matrices, 3D). Skip lengthy questions initially. NVQs in Section B are often easier — always attempt all 5. Practice mental math and shortcut formulas.
