Question

A small ball is dropped from a height h onto a rigid frictionless plate at B and rebounds. Find the maximum height reached after rebound if the coefficient of restitution between the ball and the plate is e = 0.75:

Options

A.0
B.3h / 25
C.3h/125
D.9h / 625

Solution

Sol.

u = $\sqrt{2gh}$

Net vertical component velocity = eV cos237° – V sin237°

= $\left( \frac{3}{25} \right)v$

max height = $\frac{V_{y}^{2}}{2g} = \left( \frac{9}{625} \right)\frac{v^{2}}{2g}$

= $\left( \frac{9}{625} \right)\frac{2gh}{2g}$

= $\left( \frac{9}{625} \times h \right)$
