Question
For the reaction A2(g) → B(g) + ½C(g), pressure of the system increases from 100 to 120 mm in 5 minutes. The average rate of disappearance of A2 (in mm/min) in this time interval is
Options
A.4
B.8
C.2
D.16
Solution
A2 ? B + ½ C
t = 0 100 mm 0 0
t = 5 min (100 – x) mm x mm (x/2) mm
Now, $(100 - x) + x + \frac{x}{2} = 120 \Rightarrow x = 40$
$\therefore r_{av,A_{2}} = - \frac{\Delta P}{\Delta t} = \frac{x}{t} = \frac{40}{5} = 8\text{ mm/min}$
