Gaseous StateHard
Question
At constant volume, for a fixed number of moles of a gas the pressure of the gas increases with rise of temperature due to :
Options
A.increase in average molecular speed
B.increase rate of collisions amongst molecules
C.increase in molecule attraction
D.decrease in mean free path
Solution
The pressure of the gas is due to collisions of gas molecules with the side of the vessel. An increase in temperature causes increase in average molecular speeds. If the volume is kept constant, the molecules will collide more frequently on the sides of the vessel and impart more change in momentum.
