Question
Heat of neutralisation of CsOH with all strong acid is 13.4 kcal mol-1. The heat released on neutralisation of CsOH with HF (weak acid) is 16.4 kcal mol-1. of ionisation of HF is
Options
A.
3.0 kcal
B.-3.0 kcal
C.6.0 kcal
D.0.3 kcal
Solution
i. H+ + OH- → H2O           áƒH1 = - 13.4 kcal
ii. OH- + HF → H2O + F-    áƒH2 = - 16.4 kcal
iii. HF → H+ + F-           áƒH3 = ?
áƒH3 = áƒH2 - áƒH1
= -16.4 - (-13.4) = -3.0 kcal
ii. OH- + HF → H2O + F-    áƒH2 = - 16.4 kcal
iii. HF → H+ + F-           áƒH3 = ?
áƒH3 = áƒH2 - áƒH1
= -16.4 - (-13.4) = -3.0 kcal
