A positive point charge is placed at P in front of an earthed metal sheet. Q & R are two points between P & S(on the rod) as shown in figure. If the electric field strength at Q & R are respectively EQ & ER and potential at Q & R are respectively VQ & VR . Then-

Solution

As we are are moving away from P toward sheet S spacing between electric lines of force is increasing.
∴ ER < EQ In direction of electric field potential decreases.
∴ VR < VQ
