Question
The electric field produced by a positively charged particle, placed in an xy-plane is 7.2 (4î + 3ĵ) N/C at the point (3 cm, 3cm) and 100 î N/C at the point (2 cm, 0).
Options
A.The x-coordinate of the charged particle is −2cm.
B.The charged particle is placed on the x-axis.
C.The charge of the particle is 10 × 10-12 C.
D.The electric potential at the origin due to the charge is 9V.
Solution

At point (2cm, 0), field is along x-axis. It is possible only when the particle is situated on
x-axis. Its position is located by extending electric field direction from point (3cm, 3cm). The point at which this extension intersects x-axis, is the location of the charge. That is (−1cm, 0)
For point (2cm, 0), r = 3 cm, E = 100 N/C
Using, E = kQ/r2 ⇒ Q = 10 × 10-12 C
Potential at origin = kQ/r
where, r = 1cm, Q = 10 × 10-12 C
∴ V = 9V
