Momentum and CollisionHard
Question
A cubical block of wood of side 10 cm floats at the interface between oil and water as shown in the figure with its lower face 2.0 cm below the interface. The density of oil is 0.5 gm/cm3. The mass of the block is:-

Options
A.600 gm
B.680 gm
C.420 gm
D.210 gm
Solution
Weight of the block = weight of displaced oil + weight of displaced water
mg = (8 × 10 × 10) × 0.5 g + (2 × 10 × 10) × 1 × g
M = 10 × 10 [4 + 2] = 600 gm
mg = (8 × 10 × 10) × 0.5 g + (2 × 10 × 10) × 1 × g
M = 10 × 10 [4 + 2] = 600 gm
