Question
A solid uniform ball having volume V and density r floats at the interface of two unmissable liquids as shown in figure. The densities of the upper and the lower liquids are r1 and r2 respectively, such that r1 < r < r2. What fraction of the volume of the ball will be in the lower liquid : -

Options
A.
B.
C.
D.
Solution
Let V1 volume of the ball in the lower liquid then
Vρg = V1ρ2g + (V - V1)ρ1g
⇒ Vg (ρ - ρ1) = V1ρ1g + (ρ2 - ρ1)
Vρg = V1ρ2g + (V - V1)ρ1g
⇒ Vg (ρ - ρ1) = V1ρ1g + (ρ2 - ρ1)
