Question

Given below are two statements:

Statement I : Like nitrogen that can form ammonia, arsenic can form arsine.

Statement II : Antimony cannot form antimony pentoxide.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate Ans. from the options given below :

Options

A.Both Statement I and Statement II are correct
B.Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect
C.Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect
D.Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct

Solution

Sol. [Key Concept: Assertion–Reason — group-15 hydrides (arsine) and antimony pentoxide]

All the elements of group 15 form hydrides of ${EH}_{3}$ type. Nitrogen forms ammonia $\left( {NH}_{3} \right)$ while Arsenic forms Arsine $\left( {AsH}_{3} \right)$

All the elements of group 15 form two types of oxides: $E_{2}O_{3}$ and $E_{2}O_{5}$

Antimony forms antimony pentoxide ${Sb}_{2}O_{5}$

Hence, statement I is correct and statement II is incorrect
