Question
A ball is thrown downwards with initial speed = 6 m/s, from a point at height = 3.2 m above a horizontal floor. If the ball rebounds back to the same height then coefficient of restitution equals to
Options
A.1/2
B.0.75
C.0.8
D.None
Solution
Sol.
$0^{2} = v_{2}^{2} - 2 \times 10 \times 3.2$
⇒ v2 = 8 m/s
∴ e = $\frac{8}{10}$ = 0.8
$v_{1} = \sqrt{36 + 2 \times 10 \times 3.2} = \sqrt{100}$
v1 = 10 m/s
