Question
When 1 g of compound ( X ) is subjected to Kjeldahl's method for estimation of nitrogen, 15 $mL,1MH_{2}{SO}_{4}$ was neutralized by ammonia evolved. The percentage of nitrogen in compound $(X)$ is :
Options
A.21
B.0.42
C.42
D.0.21
Solution
eq. of $H_{2}{SO}_{4} =$ eq. of Ammonia
$\Rightarrow \frac{15 \times 1 \times 2}{1000} =$ moles of ammonia $\times 1$
⇒ Moles of ammonia $=$ moles of ' N '
⇒ Weight of nitrogen $= \frac{15 \times 1 \times 2}{1000} \times 14 = 0.42$
% weight of ' $N' = \frac{0.42}{1} \times 100 = 42\%$
