Question
On heating in contact with tin, sulphurated hydrogen (V.D. = 17) is converted into hydrogen without change in volume. The equivalent weight of sulphur is
Options
A.32
B.16
C.24
D.34
Solution
Sulphurated hydrogen(g) + Sn(S) → Tin Sulphide(s) + H2 (g)
x mole x mole
= × x 34 g = × x 2 g
No change in volume means no change in mole of gases.
Mass of sulphur combined with 2x gm hydrogen = $34x - 2x = 32x\text{ g}$.
$\therefore E_{\text{Sulphur}} = \frac{32x}{2x} \times 1 = 16$
