Question
An electron is travelling along the x-direction. It encounters a magnetic field in the y-direction. Its subsequent motion will be :
Options
A.straight line along the x-direction
B.a circle in the xz-plane
C.a circle in the yz-plane
D.a circle in the xy-plane
Solution
When a charge particle enters a magnetic field, it experiences a force which is always directed perpendicular to its direction of motion. In that case the path of the charged particle becomes circular and the plan of the circle is perpendicular to due plane containing the magnetic field and velocity vector of the charge particle.
