Question

How long (approximate) should water be  electrolysed by passing through 100 amperes current so that the oxygen released can completely burn 27.66 g of diborane ?
(Atomic weight of B = 10.8 u)

Options

A.

0.8 hours

B.

3.2 hours

C.

1.6 hours

D.

6.4 hours

Solution

B2H6 + 3O2 B2O3 + 3H2O
moles of O2 required = 3 x moles of B2H6
= 3 ×27.627.6=3
I×t96500= moles of O2 × 4
t = 3×4×96500100 sec.
= 3.2 hours.
