Question
A cylindrical vessel filled with water is released on a fixed inclined surface of angle q as shown in figure. The friction coefficient of surface with vessel is μ (< tan θ). Then the constant angle made by the surface of water with the incline will be : (Neglect the viscosity of liquid)

Options
A.tan-1 μ
B.θ − tan-1 μ
C.θ + tan-1 μ
D.cot-1 μ
Solution
figure shows forces acting on a ′particle′ on the surface, with respect to vessel.

(mg sin q & m mg cos q are pseudo forces).
tan φ= μ ∴ φ = tan-1 μ.
f is angle between normal to the inclined surface and the resultant force. The same angle will be formed between the surface of water & the inclined surface.
{Q free surface is ⊥ to the resultant force acting on it.}
