Question
The equation 2 tan x + 5x - 2 = 0 has
Options
A.no solution in [0, π/4]
B.at least one real solution in [0, π/4]
C.two real solution in [0, π/4]
D.None of these
Solution
Let f(x) = 2 tan x + 5x - 2
f(0) = - 2 f(π/4) = 2 tan
Now x ∈
and f(x) is continuous on [0, π/4]
∴ By intermediate value theorem c ∈ [0, π/4] for which f(c) = 0
∴ (b) is correct.
f(0) = - 2 f(π/4) = 2 tan
Now x ∈
∴ By intermediate value theorem c ∈ [0, π/4] for which f(c) = 0
∴ (b) is correct.
