Question
Which of the following is true for the complex Co(NO2)(Cl)2.5NH3 (Co is in + III oxidation state) ?
Options
A.It shows linkage isomerism
B.It show ionisation isomerism.
C.It is inner orbital complex.
D.It is diamagnetic.
Solution
[Co(NH3)5 (NO2)]Cl2 and [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl (NO2) are ionisation isomers.
[Co(NH3)5 (NO2)]Cl2 and [Co(NH3)5 (ONO)]Cl2 are linkage isomers.
Cobalt in +3 oxidation state has 3d6 configuration which has higher CFSE. So the complex is inner orbital (i.e. d2sp3 hybridisation) and diamagnetic.
