Question
If power dissipated in the 9Ω resistor in the circuit shown is 36 watt, the potential difference across the 2Ω resistor is

Options
A.4 volts
B.8 volts
C.10 volts
D.2 volts
Solution

Current flows through the 9Ω resistor is

I1 = 2
AS the resistance 9Ω and 6Ω are connected in parallel, therefore potential difference across them is same
∴ 9I1 = 6I2
Current drawn from the battery is
I = I1 + I2 = (2 + 3) A = 5 A
The potential difference acros the 2Ω resistor is
(5 A) (2Ω) = 10 V.
