Heat and Thermal ExpansionHard

Question

A hollow copper sphere & a hollow copper cube of same surface area & negligible thickness, are filled warm water of same temperature and placed in an enclosure of constant temperature, a few degrees below of the bodies. The in the beginning : -

Options

A.The rate of energy lost by the sphere is greater than that by tha cube
B.The rate of energy lost by the two are equal
C.The rate energy lost by the sphere is less than that by the cobe
D.The rate of fall of temperature for sphere is less than that for the cube.

Solution

Fore surface area to be same
Ssphere = Scube ⇒ 4πR2 = 6a2 (> 1)
Volume ratio
(> 1)
∴ (mass of water sphere)>(Mass of water in cube)Energy host by radiation depends on the surface area. Hence intianl rate of energy loss by the two area equal. but mass of water inside the shpere is greater, hencit will coll slowly.
