NEET Physics: Important Topics, Weightage & Preparation Strategy
Physics is often the most challenging subject for NEET aspirants, especially Biology students. But with NCERT as the base and targeted practice on high-frequency chapters, you can score reliably in NEET Physics.
NEET Physics is Different from JEE Physics
NEET Physics focuses on conceptual understanding and direct NCERT applications, not complex multi-step problems like JEE. Most NEET Physics questions have 1-2 concept steps. Knowing the right formula and applying it correctly is sufficient for most questions.
High-Weightage Physics Chapters
Mechanics (Laws of Motion, Work-Energy, Rotational Motion): 8-10 questions. Electrodynamics (Current Electricity, Electromagnetic Induction): 7-8 questions. Modern Physics (Atoms, Nuclei, Photoelectric Effect): 6-7 questions. Optics (Ray and Wave): 5-6 questions.
Class 11 Physics for NEET
Class 11 contributes 45-50% of NEET Physics questions. Critical chapters: Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work-Energy, Rotational Motion, Gravitation, Properties of Matter, Thermodynamics, and Waves. Do NOT skip Class 11 Physics.
NCERT Physics Strategy
Read NCERT Physics textbooks carefully — NEET directly lifts lines and concepts from NCERT. Solve all NCERT back exercises and examples. Pay attention to NCERT tables (physical constants, units conversions). Understand derivations conceptually (not all formulas need to be derived — know when to apply each).
Numerical Practice
NEET Physics typically has 10-15 numerical questions. These require: correct formula identification, unit conversion, and clean substitution. Practice 100+ NEET Physics numericals from PYQs. Most NEET numericals are 2-step — no complex multi-integration needed.
