NEET Biology Important Topics: Chapter-wise Weightage (2026)

neet

Biology makes or breaks NEET rank. With 90 questions and 360 marks, a strong Biology score can compensate for average Physics and Chemistry performance. Here is exactly what to focus on.

Genetics and Evolution (15-20 questions)

The highest-weightage Biology topic across multiple years. Topics: Mendelian Genetics, Chromosomal Theory, Linked Genes, DNA Structure and Replication, Transcription/Translation, Mutations, Evolution (Darwin, Hardy-Weinberg). These chapters are conceptually rich and directly NCERT-based.

Human Physiology (15-18 questions)

Digestion, Respiration, Circulation, Excretion, Locomotion, Neural Control, Chemical Coordination. These are highly factual chapters from NCERT Class 12. Focus: figures and flowcharts (e.g., cardiac cycle, nephron structure, nerve impulse).

Plant Physiology (10-12 questions)

Transport in Plants, Mineral Nutrition, Photosynthesis, Respiration in Plants, Plant Growth and Development. NEET loves: Z-scheme in Photosynthesis, ETC in respiration, plant hormones (auxin, gibberellin, cytokinin effects).

Ecology and Environment (10-12 questions)

One of the easiest Biology topics if studied well. Organisms and Populations, Ecosystem, Biodiversity, Environmental Issues — mostly conceptual and factual from NCERT. These are reliable marks in NEET.

Cell Biology and Biomolecules (8-10 questions)

Cell: The Unit of Life, Cell Cycle and Division, Biomolecules. Important: diagram of cell organelles, stages of mitosis and meiosis, enzyme mechanisms. Biomolecules: structure of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, DNA/RNA.
