Question

Given below are two statements:

Statement 1 : Bone marrow is the main lymphoid organ where all blood cells including lymphocytes are produced.

Statement II: Both bone marrow and thymus provide micro environments for the development and maturation of T-lymphocytes.

In the light of above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below :

Options

A.Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.
B.Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.
C.Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
D.Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect.

Solution

Sol. [Key Concept: Primary lymphoid organs]

Both statements are accepted as correct in NCERT, so option (3) is retained. Bone marrow produces blood cells, including lymphoid precursors. T cell precursors arise in bone marrow and migrate to the thymus for their principal maturation and selection. The two organs therefore contribute at different stages; this does not mean that complete T cell maturation normally occurs independently in both.
