Question
If a genetic disease is transferred from a phenotypically normal but carrier female to only some of the male progeny, the disease is
Options
A.Autosomal dominant
B.autosomal recessive
C.sex-linked dominant
D.sex-linked recessive
Solution
Sol.(d) [Key Concept: X-linked Recessive — Carrier Female to Sons] If a disease is transferred from a PHENOTYPICALLY NORMAL CARRIER FEMALE to only SOME MALE PROGENY, it is SEX-LINKED RECESSIVE (X-linked recessive). The carrier female (X^D X^d) passes either X^D or X^d to sons — sons receiving X^d show the disease; sons receiving X^D are normal. 'Some' males affected (not all) because the carrier passes the recessive X allele to only 50% of sons. The female is normal (carrier) because she has one normal X^D allele masking the recessive X^d.
