Question
Select the correct statement from the ones given below with respect to dihybrid cross.
Options
A.Tightly linked genes on the same chromosome show higher recombinations
B.Genes far apart on the same chromosome show very few recombinations
C.Genes loosely linked on the same chromosome show similar recombinations as the tightly linked ones
D.Tightly linked genes on the same chromosome show very few recombinations
Solution
Sol.(d) [Key Concept: Linkage — Recombination Frequency] TIGHTLY LINKED GENES show VERY FEW RECOMBINATIONS. The strength of linkage is inversely proportional to the distance between genes. Tightly linked genes are close together on the chromosome → very low probability of crossover occurring between them → few recombinant offspring. Genes far apart → more crossovers → more recombinants → approach independent assortment at 50% recombination frequency.
