Question
In a certain plant, red fruit (R) is dominant over yellow fruit (r) and tallness (T) is dominant over shortness (t). If a plant with RRTt genotype is crossed with a plant rrtt genotype, what will be the percentage of tall plants with red fruits in the progeny?
Options
A.50%
B.100%
C.75%
D.25%
Solution
Sol.(a) [Key Concept: Dihybrid Cross — Genotypic Prediction] Cross: RRTt × rrtt. Gametes from RRTt: RT and Rt. Gametes from rrtt: rt only. Offspring: RrTt (tall, red) and Rrtt (short, red) in 1:1 ratio. All offspring have Rr genotype (red fruit, since R is dominant). Only RrTt are tall with red fruit = 50%. The remaining 50% are short (Rrtt) with red fruits.
