Question

The pairs among

$A = \left\lbrack {SO}_{3}\ ^{2 -},{CO}_{3}\ ^{2 -} \right\rbrack,B = \left\lbrack O_{2}\ ^{2 -},F_{2} \right\rbrack,C = \left\lbrack {CN}^{-},CO \right\rbrack$,

$D = \left\lbrack {NH}_{3},H_{3}O^{+} \right\rbrack$and $E = \left\lbrack {MnO}_{4}\ ^{2 -},{CrO}_{4}\ ^{2} \right\rbrack$ that do not have similar Lewis dot structure are :

Options

A.A, B and E
B.A and E
C.B, C and D
D.C and D

Solution

Sol. [Key Concept: Species with different Lewis (electron-dot) structures: ${SO}_{3}^{2 -}$ vs ${CO}_{3}^{2 -}$ differ, and ${MnO}_{4}^{2 -}$ (has unpaired e) vs ${CrO}_{4}^{2 -}$ (none) differ, so the answer is A and E.]

A and E do not have similar Lewis structure

${MnO}_{4}^{2 -}$ have are unpaired e but ${CrO}_{4}^{2 -}$ does not have unpaired e.

In $B,C,D$ pair of species haved same no of e.

They have similar Lewis dot structure.
