Question
It is noticed that ${Pb}^{2 +}$ is more stable than ${Pb}^{2 +}$ but ${Sn}^{2 +}$ is less stable than ${Sn}^{4 +}$. Observe the following reactions
Options
A.
B.
C.
D.
Solution
${PbO}_{2} + Pb \rightarrow 2PbO$
${Pb}^{2 +}$ is more stable hence reaction will be spontaneous. So $\Delta G^{\circ}\ _{r}(1)$ is negative.
$${SnO}_{2} + Sn \rightarrow 2SnO $$${Sn}^{+ 2}$ is less stable, so reaction will be nonspontaneous hance $\Delta G^{\circ}\ _{r}(2)$ is positive.
