Question
The total length of potentiometer wire AB is 50 cm in the arrangement as shown in figure. If P is the point where the galvanometer shows zero reading then the length AP is $\_\_\_\_$ cm .
Options
A.15
B.30
C.25
D.20
Solution
$\frac{6}{R_{AP}} = \frac{4}{R_{PB}}$;
$$\begin{array}{r} \mathcal{l}_{AP} + \mathcal{l}_{PB} = 50\#(i) \\ \frac{R_{AP}}{R_{PB}} = \frac{\mathcal{l}_{AP}}{\mathcal{l}_{PB}} = \frac{3}{2}\#(i) \end{array}$$
$$\mathcal{l}_{AP} = \frac{3}{5} \times 50 = 30\text{ }cm$$
