Question
Anthracene, C14H10, can be oxidized to anthraquinone, C14H8O2. What weight of anthraquinone can be produced by the passage of a current of 1 A of 40 min if the current efficiency is 96.5%?
Options
A.0.862 g
B.0.832 g
C.0.624 g
D.0.738 g
Solution
$C_{14}H_{10} + 2H_{2}O \rightarrow C_{14}H_{8}O_{2} + 6H^{+} + 6e^{-}$
$n_{eq}C_{14}H_{8}O_{2} = \frac{Q}{F} \Rightarrow \frac{w}{208} \times 6 = \frac{1 \times 40 \times 60 \times 0.965}{96500}$
∴ w = 0.832 gm
