Question
A quantity of 0.2 g of an organic compound containing C, H and O on combustion yielded 0.147 g CO2 and 0.12 g water. The percentage of oxygen in it is
Options
A.73.29%
B.78.45%
C.83.23%
D.89.50%
Solution
Mass per cent of carbon = $\frac{12}{44} \times \frac{0.147}{0.2} \times 100 = 20.05$= 20.05
Mass per cent of hydrogen = $\frac{2}{18} \times \frac{0.12}{0.2} \times 100 = 6.67$= 6.67
Hence, mass per cent of oxygen = 100 − (20.05 + 6.67) = 73.28%
