Carboxylic Acid and Acid DerivativesHard
Question
At higher temperature iodoform reaction is given by the dilute solution of
Options
A.CH3CO2CH3
B.CH3CO2C2H5
C.CH3CO2C6H5
D.C2H5CO2CH3
Solution
Formation of iodform is commonly used as a test for alchols having- CH(OH)CH3 grouping, acetaaldehyde and ketones having at least one alkyl group as methyl group, i.e. fordetecting the presence of-CHOH, CH; COCH3 and CH3CHO. The esters (as given in the options)are hydrolysed into alcohots or acids.
CH3COOCH2H5
CH3COOH + C2H5OH
Hence it will not give iodorform test.
CH3COOCH2H5
CH3COOH + C2H5OHHence it will not give iodorform test.
