Question
Enthalpy of neutralisation of CH3COOH by NaOH is - 50.6 kJ/mol and the heat of neutralisation of a strong acid with NaOH is - 55.9 kJ/mol. The value of ᐃH for the ionsation of CH3COOH is :
Options
A.3.5 kJ/mol
B.4.6kJ/mol
C.5.3 kJ/mol
D.6.4 kJ/ mol
Solution
Enthalpy of netutralisation of CH3COOH by NaOH is - 50.6 kJ /mole for strong acid and base this value is 55.9 kJ/mole. Heat evolved in the first case is less as some heat is used up in ionisation of CH3COOH. So, ᐃH for ionosation of CH3COOH = 55.9 - 50.6 = 5.3 kJ/mole
