Question
1.0 g of magnesium is burnt with 0.56 g O2 in a closed vessel. Which reactant is left in excess and how much?
(At. wt. Mg = 24; O = 16)
(At. wt. Mg = 24; O = 16)
Options
A.Mg, 0.16 g
B.Q2, 0.16 g
C.Mg, 0.44 g
D.Q2, 0.28 g
Solution
24 g Mg requires 16 g oxygen
∴ 0.56 g oxygen requires 0.84 g Mg
∴ Mg left = 0.16 g
∴ 0.56 g oxygen requires 0.84 g Mg
∴ Mg left = 0.16 g
