Question
Two bodies of masses 0.1 kg and 0.4 kg move towards each other with the velocities 1m/s and 0.1m/s respectively. After collision they stick together. in 10 sec the combined mass travels
Options
A.120m
B.0.12m
C.12m
D.1.2m
Solution
According to conservation of momentum m1v1 + m2v2 = (m1 + m2)v,
where v is common velocity of the two bodies.
m1 = 0.1kgm2 = 0.4 kg
v1 = 1m/ s, v1 = - 0.1 m/s,
∴ 0.1 × 1 + 0.4 × (-0.1) = (0.1 + 0.4)v
0.1 - 0.4 = 0.5v,
v =
= 0.12 m/s
Hence, distance covered = 0.12 × 10 = 1.2m.
where v is common velocity of the two bodies.
m1 = 0.1kgm2 = 0.4 kg
v1 = 1m/ s, v1 = - 0.1 m/s,
∴ 0.1 × 1 + 0.4 × (-0.1) = (0.1 + 0.4)v
0.1 - 0.4 = 0.5v,
v =
= 0.12 m/sHence, distance covered = 0.12 × 10 = 1.2m.
