Respiration in PlantsHard
Question
Connecting link between glycolysis and Krebs cycle is (before entering Krebs cycle pyruvate changed to)
Options
A.oxaloacetate
B.PEP
C.pyruvate
D.acetyl Co-A
Solution
In glycolysis, one molecule of glucose is broken down to two molecules of pyruvic acid. Pyruvic acid before entering into Krebs cycle that operates in mitochondria, is carboxylated oxidatively to produce acetyl Co-A, NADPH and CO2 with the help of enzyme complex pyruvate dehydrogenase. It is called gateway step or link reaction, acetyl Co-A acts as substrate entrant of Krebs cycle and a connecting link between glycolysis, Krebs cycle and carbohydrate and fat metabolism.
