Question
Acromegaly is caused by
Options
A.excess of STH
B.excess of thyroxin
C.deficiency of thyroxin
D.excess of adrenalin
Solution
Hypersecretion of growth hormone (somatotropic hormone) during adulthood causes acromegaly. It is characterized by bossing of frontal bone, prominent cheek, coatse hair, hirsutism and enlarged hands and feet.
Deficiency of thyroxin hormone causes cretinism and goitre. Excess secretion of thyroid hormone is responsible for exophthalic goitre.
The principal hormone made by the adrenal medulla is adrenalin (also called epinephrine). It was the hormone to be isolated in crystalline form in 1901 and was first synthesized in 1904. This hormone is also called as emergency hormone.
