The cells of quieescent centre have lower concentrion of DNA, RNA and protein as compared to other cells in the root apex. These cells also have fewer mitochondria, little endoplasmic reticulum and very asall nuclei and nucleoli. The region of quiescent centre was discovered by Clowes (1958).
