It was developed in fossil gymnosperm of group Cycadofilicales (pteridoeperms), ie, seed ferns, eg, Lyginopteris which bears character of cycads and ferns both. Seed habit is shown by few pteridophytes like Selaginella, Marsila, Isoetes etc which exhibit heterospory.
