Options
A.Pteris archegonia repel Funaria sperms
B.Funaria sperms get killed by Pteris sperms
C.Funaria sperms are less mobile
D.Pteris archegonia release chemical to attract its sperms
Solution
Fertilization in fern occurs in the presence of fluid water between the lower of the protallus and the soil. In Dryopteris and Pteris, sperms are attracted by the chermical diffusing into the water from the mucilge exuded by the open necks of archegonia of the older prothalli some of them make their down the canal to the rgg in the venter and only one of these enters the egg to accomplish fertilization. It is to be noted that, secretion of chemical from the protallus repels the sperms after the first zygote is formed and prevents more eggs from being fertilzed.
