The diseease ″blue baby syndrome″ results from methaemoglbin. The main cause of this disease are the nitrate fertilizers on soil which enter the human body through water and converted to nitrites by microbial flora of intestine. The nitrites combine with haemoglobin to form methaemoglobin causing methaemoglobinaemia in adults and blue baby syndrome in newly borne babies or infants.
