Question
During photorespiation, the oxygen consuming reaction occurs in
Options
A.stroma of chloroplasts and mitochondria
B.stroma of chloroplasts and peroxisomrs
C.grana of chloroplasts and peroxisomrs
D.stroma of chloroplasts
Solution
The first reaction of photorespiation occurs in stroma of chloroplast. In this reaction the RuBP (Ribulose 1, 5 biphosphste) consumes one oxygen molecule in presence of enzyme Rubisco. In peroxisome the glycolate transferred from chloroplast takes up O2 and from the glyoxylate whereas the H2O2 releases as byproduct.
