Chomosomes are responsible for the transmission of the hereditary information from one generation to the next. The arms of chomosomes are known as chromatids. These arms are held together at a point called the centromere (or primary constriction). Centromere occurs any where along the length of chomosomes. During cell division spindle fibres are attached to centromere and help in the movement of homosomes towards the poles.
