Cell Cycle and Cell DivisionHard
Question
Which one of the following structures will not be common to mitotic cells of higher plants ?
Options
A.Cell plate
B.Centriole
C.Centromere
D.Spindle fibres
Solution
Centrosome is found in animals, Euglena, Nitella, some fungi and members of dinoflagellate. It is founf near the nucleus . It is made up of two centrioles and also termed as diplosome. The two centrioles are sutuated at to each other. Each centriole is a cylindrical structure with a diameter of 1500 - 1800
and length 3000-5000
and is made up of nine fibrils. Each fibril is a triplet of microtubules . Hub is present in the centre but there is no microtubule .
Centrioles and centrosphere together are called centrosome or microcentrum . Main function of ecntrosome is at the time of cell division when the two centrioles separate and move on two poles. Aster and spindle are formed from it, which help in the movement of chromatids. They form basal body, cillia, flagella etc.
Centriole is rich in tubulin and ATPase.
Centrioles replicate in G2-phase of interphase of cell cycle but do not initiate cell division .
