Matthias J Schleiden (a German botanist, 1938) examined a large number of plant tissue and observed that all of them were composed of one or other kind of cells. Theodor Schwann (1939),a German zoologist also studied different types of animal tissues and gave the hypoth esis that all living organisms are products of cell. Later in 1939,Schleiden and Schwann jointly proposed the cell theory.
